Frequent Questions

1. When is construction scheduled to begin and how long will it last?
Currently, construction is planned to begin in Spring 2008 and expected to last one construction season. This is only an estimate, however; factors such as weather, property impacts, and maintaining access could affect the final schedule.

2. How will access to my property be maintained during construction?
Access will be provided (from a minimum of one direction) to all properties for the duration of construction, except in the during driveway reconstruction.

3. Does this project include the installation of a traffic signal at 75th and Adams?
A traffic signal is not planned for 75th and Adams Streets at this time because it doesn’t meet established minimum criteria (Federal warrants), which is when benefits of the signal are considered to outweigh the disadvantages. When traffic signals that are not justified or warranted are installed, they can actually reduce the overall safety at an intersection.

4. Will there be a pedestrian crossing at 75th?
This location currently doesn’t meet the criteria for a pedestrian-activated traffic signal. Pedestrian volumes will continue to be studied at this location, however, to determine if a pedestrian crossing is warranted in the future.

5. How will these improvements change traffic patterns on other neighboring streets?
Traffic studies have been conducted to assess the predicted future traffic patterns in the area. The roadway improvements on Adams Street will adjust some drivers’ traffic routes during construction, but traffic patterns should return to normal after construction is completed. We do expect the traffic volumes to increase in the future as development continues.

6. Will sidewalks be added or changed in the project area?
New sidewalk will be built on the north side of Adams Street from 75th Street to 84th Street. New sidewalk is expected to be built on the south side of Adams Street from 82nd Street to 84th Street with consideration for sidewalk from 80th to 82nd. The existing sidewalk from 75th Street to 80th Street on the south side of Adams will remain in place.

7. Will 84th Street have turn lanes added to it for Adams?
84th Street will not be modified with this project. This project will only improve Adams Street from 75th Street up to the west side of 84th Street and from the east side of 84th Street to 90th Street.

8. Why does the project end at 75th Street and not continue the improvements to 70th?
Construction dollars and expected benefits are considered on all projects. Due to limited budgets and numerous needs across the city, some roadway improvements have had to be delayed until future funds become available.

9. Why is Adams only being improved to a 3-lane and not to a 4-lane with turn lanes?
Many factors are taken into consideration when determining how many lanes are needed. Traffic volumes, construction costs and matching the adjacent section of roadway help determine the type of roadway improvements that are needed. The Adams Street improvements will match the 3-lane roadway to the west of 75th Street.

10. Will there be any impacts to Fairview Cemetery?
We expect limited impacts to Fairview Cemetery with this project. The impacts include a modification of the driveway slope and width onto Adams to match the proposed elevation of the street. The other possible change would be to adjust the location of the cemetery sign to improve sight distance at the intersection of 84th Street and Adams Street.

11. Does this project include a noise study or noise walls?
The City of Lincoln does not conduct noise studies on arterial streets. Noise walls are usually only considered on projects with federal dollars used for construction. This project does not meet these requirements.
